I give my cats a little corn oil every day. It makes their fur soft! And I was told corn oil is especially good for cats nutritionally. And they like the taste too. I get Mazola.

Your precious one is self-medicating his constipation problem.
When you see your cat eating weird things that's the clue they are lacking something in their diet.
The vet told me research shows wet food should take up the main percentage of a cat's diet because of the moisture content.
Ensure the canned food has a high fiber content. Avoid feeding lots of dry bits.
Keep FRESH water available at all times. If your cat is not drinking enough water that is a problem. Find out why your cat does not like the water. Perhaps there is too much chlorine in your water supply. In that case you might have to use bottled water.
Feed mashed sardines canned in soya oil once or twice a week.
Believe it or not, cats need some "vegetables". You can try canned food that has veggies in it like "kitty stew" or add some mashed cooked or blanched greens into their wet food. Try it. They do eat grass, right?
My cat absolutely must have lettuce - yes, lettuce -once a day or he will go for the houseplants. You can buy those cat grass growing kits in stores. Right now it is winter here, snow is on the ground and my cat cannot go outside for grass.
The vet told me that too much fish is not good for cats - go figure - so I don't know if giving cod liver oil is okay for the long term. It works really well for humans! Very small doses of mineral or soya oil won't do any harm.
Bottom line is start feeding wet food and make sure he drinks lots of water. That will keep his bowels moving. And maybe stop using clumping litter for a while to see if that helps keep his stool
softer. He might be ingesting some of the clay litter when he cleans his paws and it is causing some clumping in his bowels drying out his stool?
Hope this helps.

I don't think it would hurt, but I'd check with my vet just to be on the safe side - that he's not lacking something in his diet. If he has a dry stool, do you feed him canned food? Fancy Feast is the recommended brand by my vet, of all the commercial ones out there. The moisture will help his stool and give him a great source of protein - and it doesn't have to only be stinky fish. My cats love chicken.

Dry stool? What are you feeding him?
I've heard that on a raw diet, cat's stool is typically dry and crumbly. Which is a good thing. But if you're not feeding him a raw diet, I don't know why it would be like that.
I recommend taking in a sample for analysis.
Oh, and does he seem to be in pain when he goes? If so, then he's constipated.
Here's an article about that, and you can also look into their many good articles on cat nutrition in general. A change in diet may be in order for you!

Yes, its fine. But just never get it mixed with olive oil because its not as healthy as veg. oil. If u put it in its food then his fur will also become softer and he wont get dry skin as easily
Hope this works!

I put a little olive oil on the kibble myself so vegetable oil should't be any different.
