I did it with St Johns Ambulance, just Google them you'll get their web page. It costs about £121.00 for a 3 day course. This is the General Public First Aid. Careful, be sure you know which First Aid Course you're doing. I found a million...geez.
The first 2 dayz are day courses and they're classes. The 3rd day, you start at around 6-7pm and do your test, like practicle tests. I did mine in Crawford Street near Baker Street Station.
Also, are you doing this as a member of the public or with your workplace? There's a difference. My source is for the General Public who want to take a First Aid Course.

There are a number of courses you can do.
The appointed person's course is a one day course and costs around £60
The first aid at work course is four days and costs about £180
If you are working with children, the paediatric course is over two days, covers basic first aid for adults and is about £100
As for training providers - look in the phone book or ask at your local college for a prospectus, which will list courses that they are running. Although St John's and The Red Cross are well known, any (quality) training provider will ensure that you are taught the techniques that you need to know to deal with an emergency and should cover all of the same information.

At where I used to work I was one of the first aid team. They gave us free training and power over every one at work muahahahaah. I was the one to give out the plasters!
It was actually quite demeaning to be honest the course is just stuff you know or can look up on the net and not have to pretend that this is all new and that your instructor is on another plain of existence then you are and will ever be. Enough rambling though ask your work if they can offer you the facility's. It may be a legal requirement so you could be doing them a favour.
Oh and it might take you out of work one day a week for about a month so I'm sure it sounds even beter now eh?

A full first aid course will cost around £180. It lasts for four days to get the full certificate and most London boroughs run them. Check your borough on their web site.
