For the past 10 years, I have been diagnosed as having chronic depression, chronic anxiety, and mild schizophrenia. I am now 19 and on several different strong medications. They more or less keep me tranquilized and I just stay in my room all day. I never graduated school, and I just quit my job of 2 1/2 years. Right now I feel like I am so dependent on everyone that I lost myself somewhere. My mom and my family both think that I need to get anyway and find who I am and achieve independence. Thats why we decided that I should move down to Florida with my aunt and uncle (whom I'm also very close with) and kind'of build my life back up again. Return to school, get a part-time job, and learn how to drive.

I grew up in Florida and I absolutely love it. My question to you is, do you think this will help me achieve something? I'm also going to ween myself off of my medication. I believe sun-shine beats medicine anyday. I'm really scared and don't know if I will last. What do you think?

Oh, sweetie. Wow, I have a friend that's exactly in your boat (but 10 years older). Please, DON'T go off your meds... just talk to your Physician or a new Doc (if they suck) about any side effects or change in feelings that you've experienced.

About moving...I think that it could be a great idea. However, sometimes moving to escape your problems doesn't have the effect that you would hope for. Problems still tend to occur in new places and sometimes you don't have the familiarity or normalcy to cope with them. The new climate sounds nice though, and you do have family that you already like there. Sometimes some sun (major endorphins) and love can be just what the Dr. ordered.

Wherever you go, I think some kind of support group would be a good idea. My poor buddy has lost lots of friends (not saying this is your case) because her behavior is sometimes odd and people don't know how to take it...or often get offended by it.

I wish you the absolute best!

Hello

I am sorry about your current situation but you are so fortunate and blessed to have family who love and support you. I am also feeling down myself because I have been working a temp job for 2 years and I cant seem to get a permanent job to save my life. Schizophrenia and depression runs in my family that’s why I am in school to be a psychologist because I see first hand how difficult it can be to deal with. Medication can be helpful to some people. My mom suffers from depression and it took several attempts to find the right medication for her. Certain medication drains you and makes you feel like a zombie. It can take some time to find the right medication for you. Now that my mom has the correct medication she is doing very well went back to school and is working again. I think the key for you is to find the right medication so that it will still allow you to function and get your life back. The serotonin levels do increase with sunshine so moving to a sunny state does help allot so you are moving in the right direction by moving to Florida! You should keep a diary and faithfully write in it every night about how you are feeling. Writing down daily small goals for yourself will help also. Try starting small by saying today I am going to go outside and jog for 15-20 minutes... Exercise helps allot with depression. If you need to talk more you can always email me. Your story helped to inspire me today. Thank you! :) mizzmaya79@yahoo.com

God Bless

go for it
take a step at a time, dont rush into things as you may make yourself ill and then that would have been a waste off a time.
best thing too do is as you said too achieve something then IT will give you the strength and courage too keep going.
also slowly take yourself off the medication lessen how many or how much u take a day if you take yourself off i completely it may make you ill
