The 70 weeks (v 24) start in 457BC with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem. 7 weeks + 62 weeks (V 25) takes us to Jesus' baptism in 27AD (Messiah cut off, but not for himself). He confirmed the covenant with many for 1 week (7 days = 7 years; from His baptism through the stoning of Stephen), and in the midst of the week (3 1/2 years) he shall cause the the sacrifice to cease (crucified - no more sacrificial system, curtain in temple torn in two).
I've heard a sermon: Jesus said we are to forgive not 7 times, but 70 x 7. This was to remind the Jews of this prophecy in Daniel that was being fulfilled in their life time. (70 weeks x 7 days a week = 490 days/years - a day for a year) He was telling them that God was not always going to strive with them, but there was coming a change in their system, where type was to meet anti-type, and they better wake up and realize what was going on or they'd miss the change.

The space of "seventy" weeks is not to be understood of weeks of days; which is too short a time for the fulfilment of so many events as are mentioned; nor were they fulfilled within such a space of time; but of weeks of years, and make up **four hundred and ninety years** (or seven times the seventy); within which time, beginning from a date after mentioned, all the things prophesied of were accomplished; and this way of determining of years by days is not unusual in the sacred writings; see Gen_29:27.
The first events mentioned are spiritual ones, and are not ascribed to any particular period; but are what should be done within this compass of time in general, and were done toward the close of it; and are first observed because of the greatest importance.
Most of what you are reading are premillennial views: the view that Christ's return will usher in a future millennium of Messianic rule mentioned in the book of Revelation before the final judgment. The believers of this doctrine also hold to the notion of a Rapture of the righteous beforehand.
This is a popular belief, but there are others that can be substantiated by the bible. We are probably going through the tribulation period now. When it started is speculative, when it ends the final judgment of everyone occurs.
Some groups, such as the folks over at http://worldwide.familyradio.org... believe the final judgment will be upon us sometime in mid-2011!

It's all very complicated, and the human mind loves complicated problems.
I think it's all nonsense, of course, sort of a theological Rubic's Cube, but fun, I'm sure, nonetheless.
