Hi! can someone advise me how to check if a motor is open circuit using a mulit meter, i have not been using it for sometime.
Is it by measuring the the motor phase to phase for continuity and if one phase does not have continuity that means the motor is open circuit?

Check to motor like you say from phase to phase for continuity. All readings should be about the same. If two readings are about 10.2ohms and the other is 25.8ohms than you know that something isn't right and I wouldnt use it. Also, check all the phases to the frame. If you get anything other than Mega ohms than do not use the motor. You should be reading completely open, but sometimes you will get a mega ohm reading. Nothing in thousands should be accepted.

Be safe. Turn the power off. check between phases then between each phase and ground. If this does not work meg the motor-it could be arking inside when running but not show ground.

It sounds like it is open if one phase shows no continuity and the other two show resistance (equal to what the motor is supposed to be rated at).
