depends on your desired "doneness"
All eggs should be in water on stove top on high to med-high heat. Once the water shows signs of boiling, set timer and watch.
3-5 minutes boiled "easy" Yolk will be hot but liquid.
6-8 minutes boiled "medium" yolk will be more gooey
9-11 minutes boiled "hard" yolk will be one concise hard ball.
After disired "doneness" is reached, immediately place pot under cold water to stop further cooking.
To aid in shell removal, crack up egg, and under slow stream of cold water removel hard-boiled egg, water should lift the shell a bit to aid in removal. For "easy" boiled eggs, may want to place in egg holder and crack top with spoon.

Soft-boiled eggs are typically cooked by placing the eggs in a pan of boiling water and then simmering for 3 - 4 minutes
Hard-boiled eggs are typically boiled for 10-18 minutes, depending on the size of the egg

Okay, here's the "real" answer. Place eggs in the pan and cover with cold water. Heat to boiling. When the water comes to a full boil, turn the heat off, cover the pan, and set timer for 15 minutes. When the timer goes off run cold water in the pan to stop the cooking process and cool the eggs. This ensures your eggs are not over cooked and avoids that unsightly "grey" around the yolk of improperly cooked eggs.

15 minutes after the water is boiling. Drop the egg in the water and then turn on the heat to boiling. Let it boil for 15 minutes and then cool the egg by putting it in ice water for 10 minutes. good luck

Hard boiled eggs take about 10 mins after the water starts to boil. Soft boiled eggs take 2 mins after the water starts to boil. I always start eggs in cold/warm water so they don't crack when you drop them in.

I boil it for about 10 min. Then shut off heat and let sit for between 5 and 8 min. Then place in cold water to stop cooking.

Depends on how done you like the yolk, I bring my water to a boil then shut off heat. Put lid on and let sit for 10 mins. Done to perfection for my taste.

I cover them with cold water, bring to a boil and then time them for 15 minutes. That's for hard-boiled. They peel really easily if you crack the shells when you drain them and cover them with more cold water.
