You can't just get a medical disharge "because". You have to be proven through a series of Doctors that you are no longer fit for Military service, not easy or quick. Then he goes through the board process (another1 - 3 months) to see if it was approved or disapproved. Then he acknowledges the answer and it gets sent in for final approval (another 1 -3 months), THEN he will deal with VA and obtain his discharge.
Getting beat up is not going to be sufficient reason for a discharge unless he was permentally disabled in some way.

You can't just want a medical discharge. You have to be hurt on active duty, on a profile for 6 months with no positive change in your condition, then it can take 2 years or longer to get done with the Disability Evaluation Board (Board designed to see whether the soldier is deployable or not, how badly hurt they think he or she is and if they think he or she will get better). A person is better off finishing his/her enlistment and not re-enlisting. Being in the military is an honor! You dont just try to get out. You fulfill your contract. If you have a problem you go up the ranks to get it fixed. You dont punk out!

FIRST, the individual needs to be determined to be no longer physically qualified to serve in the Army !! Then it is up to the Medical Corps and HIS Command to process him out.
I suppose you could go to his chaplain and ask his/her help... but since you aren't in a lawful married relationship, the military doesn't have to deal with you.

getting beaten up is not grounds for a medical discharge unless permanent damage was done. Bruises and/or broken bones are not permanent.

He has to be in a coma or something truly serious to get discharged. Like losing a limb...not suggesting anything, but its hard nowadays to get discharged. Especially since they are deploying more troops out there.

Sorry. He signed on the bottom line. Unless he is disabled and declared unfit for duty, he is in for the duration. Getting beat up is not going to do it.

If he is deemed fit for duty there is no way he can get out except to perhaps shoot himself. I'm thinking he needs to handle this issue himself.
