I would only keep healthy snacks in the house and no junk food at all. This can be hard, I know from experience my husband is thin and loves all sorts of junk food. I tell him to have it at work not at home. Still he will buy treats for our child they should not be eating. There are so many holidays too, Valentines day, Easter, etc seems no matter how hard I try someone introduces candy and junk food to my child. In school it is birthdays. So I can understand why you are asking how to help your child lose some weight. It is a very common problem lately. No snack foods at home , less TV and more outside activities. I know that is not always practical either. If they have to watch TV try the new game system where they interact like dancing or sports, such as tennis. Good luck and please wish me the same.
My child drinks plenty of water too, it doesn't seem to make a difference. There is always a water bottle with them.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

The first thing I will as is how much has he grown in HEIGHT? You know, not all weight gain in children comes from being "fat". My 8 y/o son gained 10 lbs in that amount of time and it turned out he had GROWN 4 inches in height. The suggestions of getting him off the TV and computer are good. I have a hard time with my own son wanting to go outside. Now that it is warming up, he wants to get out more. And the other problem I have with my own son of that age is keeping the snacks away. I have to occupy his time so he's not eating out of boredom.

You're not fat. Just try to eat better foods: Lean meats, fruits, veggies, lay off the sugar and soda and sweets. Go for long walks, do some aerobics, put on your favorite CD and dance around your room. Kids used to play outside all the time rather than sitting in front of computers and video games all day. Go play tag or manhunt!

Take some walks with him, or bike rides. Go out and throw a ball with him...teach him to play tennis...sign him up for sports, anything to get his little body physical. Keep a supply of fresh fruits and veggies on hand to offer as snacks instead of cookies or junk food. Give him more water to drink instead of juice or soda. Take an active part in it with him so he is less likely to develop self esteem issues. Talk to him too....be sure there is nothing going on in his mind that may be making him feel depressed or left out at school or elsewhere. Good luck.

First of all - turn off the tv, unplug the computer, and make him go outside and play with his friends. Walk around the neighboorhood every night after dinner. Quit taking him to McDonald's. Pack a lunch for him instead of giving him money to buy whatever he wants at school. Get him involved in sports.

Three meals Healthy and three snacks healthy. Take him shopping with you and let him pick out snacks but be in charge of what he chooses. Let him have only one plate full of food at meal time make sure each item is a portion size. Only one serving spoon size make sure you have a couple carbs, veggie, one meet and a fruit and a bread. At snack time encourage him to eat fruit, and dont fret it it, he is a growing boy. Make sure he is getting outside and playing.

Turn off the computer, unplug the video games, get rid of cable TV, and go outside and play with him. Excercise, excercise, excercise. Ride bikes, play ball, anything.
