* Hang paintings at eye level. For adults this means the center should be around 60” high; in children’s rooms, they should be lower.
* When you hang a painting over a couch or other large furniture piece, generally allow 6-8 inches above the furniture, even if this means raising the center of the picture above eye level.

Generally, its eye level, meaning the point at which you focus on the picture at eye level. Its not aways the center....but, thats a general rule of thumb.
You can hang it any way you want....if you group smaller pieces together, its nice to have them offset, that way the eye waders from point to point.
I always have someone on the other side of the room, and hold it up where I feel it should go...the ask the other person. I'm kinda short, so my center isn't always comfortable for someone else....it always works for me just fine.

Your eye level is suppose to be in the center of the picture. Now this pertains to a person who is of the average height. Between 5.3 and 5.5. If you are the tallest peroson in your house you will want to hang it lower, so that your eye level would be above center.

When you walk in the room, it should be eye level,
means you can see the whole painting where you don't
need to look up or down, Any size.

Yes it is best hung at eye level.....average height eye level, unless it will be viewed only by shorter or taller folks.for example, my mom is 5 feet tall, she hangs her art at 5' 2'. I like to hang the art in my house at 68" it makes it a good average for visitors.

It is a matter of personal preference!! There is no right or wrong way!!! Be creative!! I combine Large and Small mixed together at different heights and different distances apart!!! I don't like them all grouped at the same height!!!
