It is an over population and poverty problem. Landless people are moving into the forest and clearing land for farms. There is also some unsustainable logging, but I have heard that it is mostly individuals clearing farm land that are causing the destruction. Slash and burn agriculture. The only real solution would be fewer people. Lower the birth rate. The only way to lower the birth rate that has worked over and over again is to make people rich. The U.S. has a very low birth rate and if it were not for immigration the population would be falling. South America is quite poor and has a very high birth rate.

I worked in the Ecuador jungle for 12 years and with the high rainfall the jungle will take it back before u know it. I have Sean fence post sprout and grow . U make a road in the jungle and if it doesn't have a lot of traffic the jungle takes it back. The rain forest are doing fine .
