Do you know the difference between fact and fiction? If you watch the Godfather does it make you want to go out and kill someone? Probably not because most people understand that it's just a story, the same thing goes for Harry Potter. It's like reading Peter Pan...Hogwarts is a fairytale land not even closely tied to reality. That said, it follows witchcraft about as much as most older disney movies like Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. We never worried about these being harmful, so is Harry Potter any different? I don't think so personally.

If witchcraft is the criteria for not reading children's books then the following (among others) should be banned since they have witches and/or witchcraft in them :

Cinderella
Snow White
Sleeping Beauty
Hansel and Gretel (for goodness sake she was going to cook the children!)
The Wizard of Oz
The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
Rapunzel

I could go on, but I think you get it.

It is no different than any childrens fairytale. Imagination is not a sin.

Only your religious leader can tell you that -depending on your religion.
However, my point of view is as a christian -as long as you dont take it seriously as a actual witchcraft and merely a fantasy role -like unicorns and use proper jusgement and parental guidence (meaning -parents explain your beliefs vs. this fantasy fictional charachter and that its not to be taken too seroiusly / and young adults -talk to your parent or guidence councelor-religoius councelor for the proper understanding of this type of Role that Harry Potter plays vs. you religious beliefs.) I really dont see the harm in watching or following Harry Potter type resources. My daughter still to this day wants to be Hermione Granger and dresses up like her around the house and even had her step-father make her a Wand like Harry's. Adventure Play -not Witchcraft

Do you mean "follow" as in be interested in the movies and books? No, it is not a sin. I have a great article from James F. Sennett, a professor of philosophy and interdisciplinary studies at Lincoln (Illinois) Christian College and Seminary who thinks Harry Potter is great. READ IT.

Sin sin sin, then everything is a sin. Harry potter movies are not about real witch craft anyway. By the way , the archaic definition of the word witch is that it means wise person.People practicing wicca or any other form of "paganism" honour that aspect of God/Goddess that is the earth and her mysteries. Black magic is something else
