my cat has a tumor on his leg the size of a large grape. i dont have the money to have it removed and my parents refuse to pay for it. how long will he live? he has had it for a few years and it doesnt seem to be affecting his attitude, appetite, play/sleep habits, anything! he acts like its not even there. he is an older cat at 9 1/2 years old. i just want to know how much longer he will be with me if it is cancerous. best answer gets 10 points. thank you.

It might not be a cancerous tumor, it could be a cyst, an abcess, or a tumor that is benign (not cancerous).

The only way for sure is to go to the vet to have it checked out. If you are unable to afford it and your vet is not able to take payments or you can't put it on a credit card, you can call the local humane society, explain the situation and see if they have vets that they work with which have a reduced rate or take payments.

For right now, don't assume it's a cancerous tumor or needs to be removed. Sometimes things just need to be drained and then that's that. But you need to take the cat to the vet to find out what you're dealing with before you decided what needs to be done.

If it is cancerous, how long he can live with it really depends on what kind of cancer and whether it is benign or malignant. Only a biopsy can tell you for certain.
On the other hand, it may just be a fatty cyst and not a tumor at all. Older cats (and dogs) frequently get these.
Try switching his cat food over to a senior diet. This is lower in fat and if it is just a fatty cyst, it could help keep it from growing any more.

How long has it been there? Has it grown suddenly and is it growing still? I would watch it monitor it's growth and if it starts growing and his eating habits and activity changes drastically go to the vet and have him euthanized. It may be a non malignant tumor a fatty tissue tumor like we get and may do him no harm at all. love him as long as you can. Don't let him suffer, start saving a bit of money though, euthanasia costs about $35.00

If he has had it for a few years, you are probably not dealing with anything serious if it begins to grow rapidly or change shape, or get infected etc.... then the situation has changed. If it stays the same and does not effect quality of life after a few years he is probably fine Fatty tumor or some othe benign growth.

there is no way that anyone can tell you anything about your cat and the tumor without seeing the cat. You will need to have a vet examine the cat and tell you if the tumor needs to be biopsied, excised or left alone.

I am currently dealing with cancer in two cats and had one who died from mammary cancer three years ago. It seems there is no cancer in cats that vets do not deem "aggressive" and the fact that the growth has been there for a few years would lead me to believe it not cancer.

That does not mean that it shouldn't be examined and removed.

I would talk to a vet. They can help you out with the money situation. But i would get the tumor looked at.
