im 'seeing' someone who is waiting till im ready and over my ex before we can get into a relation ship, hes lovely but i just cant fall for him in that way no matter how hard i try, hes booked us a weekend away to brussels which he paid for end of marh, i only been seeing him a month. im really scared about hurting him, but i know i need to cos i cant love him. im considering taking my ex back cos he is doing everything in the book to get me back and we had a house together was together 3 years, he just ended it out the blue. how can i let him down gently??

well first of all i think the only reason that you can't see a future for this new guy is because your still in love with your ex and you obviously want to get back with him, and when you feel like that about a ex you can't move on with anyone.
be honest with this new guy and tell him that your still in love with your ex and your going to give it another try and he wants you back and tell him its nothing he has done but just that your still in love with the ex. don't tell him that you never see a future with him because ur feelings are still with your ex and not open for anyone else. and like they say never say never.

The unfortunate truth to this is... no matter how gently you put it, it's going to hurt him. HOWEVER... you can still do it in a way that won't sever the way he thinks of you in the future. Just be really soft with your voice and look him in the eye and tell him what you like about him. But then let him know that your heart just isn't in it right now. Let him know you're still going through a lot with feelings about your ex boyfriend. Remind him that you and your ex had quite a history and that it's just going to take some time for you to be able to care about someone on an intimate level again. Tell him the truth. That you still love your ex and he is doing all he can to restart your relationship. Tell this new guy that you honestly don't see a future to the relationship with him,despite the fact he is a lovely man. Prolonging things will just make it more hurtful for him.

now think about this. you have a man that wants to take you away and pay for everything and you want to let him down gently. on the other hand you want to get back with your ex that dumped you for no reason. i am thinking that maybe you should stop and think about this for a minute. you are probley making a bad mistake leaving someone who wants to do for you for someone that doesn't care about your feelings.

However you decide to do it, DON'T go on the trip with him. That will just lead him to believe you are interested in something more. If you take the trip and then tell him you're not interested in a relationship, then you'll just seem like a user.

Your better off trying it with your X, talking it over with him, the new guy has to just give up.. Tell him, I'm too attached with my X, and really need to give him a chance. Its no fair to the other guy, if you start dating him, and thinking of taking your X back,and don't really like the other guy.
