This question was asked by another person last month, so I'll give the same answer now as I did then.

Had the Confederacy won the War Between the States, I think the United States, consisting of the 25 remaining states, would pretty much have gone on as it has, with some inevitable changes. The westward expansion would have continued, although now the territories would be picked over between the USA and the CSA. And there's no guarantee that another war wouldn't have broken out over the fight for land. Trade and commerce between the USA and the CSA would be established, but I'm not so sure how well that would have worked out. The people of the North may have protested that since the main crop that the Confederacy had to export - cotton - was the product of slave labor. If I were a resident of the USA after my country had just been defeated and slavery allowed to remain in place, I wouldn't be too happy with my government for establishing trade with the nation that kept slavery.

I also think that, eventually, the United States would once again contain the former Confederate states as a part of the Union. The reason I think this is because the main platform that the Confederacy was fighting for was State's Rights, that being the right of the individual states to govern themselves without interference from a centralized, or "federalized," government. Any nation founded on this principle is doomed to failure, because if the nation is to succeed they must have one governing body that can organize and administer the individual states and form them into a cohesive, effective nation. The concept of "state's rights" flies right in the face of this, and I don't think the Confederacy would have lasted more than 25 years, tops. By that time slavery would have died out on its own, so there wouldn't be any reason not to take the former Confederate states back into the Union. Enough time would have passed that the hard feelings on the part of the North would be gone, so the assimilation of the Southern states back into the Union would be relatively painless for all.

But that's just my opinion.

this may well be a query which would be meditated for all of time. Thank God they did no longer win it, or the U. S. could have been diminished so badly that the destiny could have been very dark for the international, notably whilst WWII rolled around...... on account that all the States that suceeded from the Union handed regulations presently thereafter legalizing slavery,it could have been criminal interior the CSA. particular, Lee could have been elected President... and NO slaver does no longer have long previous away for an prolonged , long term, after those States fought so no longer undemanding to maintain that enterprise. That final fact is a fact. The South fought to maintain slavery. all the communicate approximately "States Rights" and all it extremely is drivel and spin doctorism.. WHAT "states rights" ??? the your best option to maintain slaves! What else! ?

The South had a strong economy before the civil war. It took many years to rebuild after the war. Economically they never recovered to how it was before. Since slavery was a major issue for the civil war along with states rights. Farming would be bigger. If slavery moved west to California there would be even larger farms. There would be fewer blacks commitng crimes. They would have a greater fear of doing things toward whites. There would be less crime. Perhaps the White house would be moved to Alabama.

A lot like it is now. Slavery would have disappeared on its own within a decade or two anyway. The only thing the war really did was to give the northern banks control over the southern agricultural trade.

There is a whole series of books by Harry Turtledove that deals with that idea. I believe there are 7 so far and he has carried the alternate history all the way up to WW II.

Since slavery was NOT the reason for the Civil War, I imagine America wouldn't be too different than it is now. It might even be saner.

Find a book titled "Guns Of The South". It is an alternative history fiction which depicts the CSA winning and remaining it's own country.
