My cat has recently started howling at my closed bedroom door. It used to be that he would just meow when we were in there and going to bed, but now he does it whether we're in there or not. We just recently had him fixed (about 2 weeks ago) and he responded fine, so I doubt it's a heat -- if males can go into heat. We also make sure his bowl is always filled, his litter is clean, and we play with him until he's completely tuckered out. Anyone have any ideas as to why he's so whiney all of a sudden? It's driving us nuts.

This sounds simple, but leave the door open. Visitors have no right to look in there, but your cat does. He's part of the family,no?

When you play with him, squeeze him all over rather vigorously. If you find a tender spot that is uncomfortable or sore it may be a clue. You want to make sure he isn't ill.

Then, it could still be sexual in nature. If a non-neutered male smells a female in heat it will drive him nuts. If he was only neutered two weeks or so agoand there is a female in heat around, he may still have enough hormones in him to cause him to react. If that is the case it will go away in time.

He may just be lonely. I own (and have always recommended to cat lovers) two cats. It solves many of the problems people complain about single cats. When you have two they are rarely bored or lonely. My two guys are brothers. Since they were kittens we have kept them inside and used the litter box. They are in very good health and never in any danger outside out of our control. Now at four years old, they don't want to go outside. They just like to sit in the window.

My cat does the same thing. She can't stand for a door to be closed! She's very social and always wants to be near one of us. She'll meow at a closed door until we go to check why she is meowing. If we open it for her, she'll walk in, walk around the room and if there isn't anyone in there, she usually walks out. I used to close my bedroom door at night too, but gave up when I had to open it in the middle of the night to let her in if I wanted to get any sleep. Is there any reason why you don't want him in your room at night? Are you guys gone all day? Maybe he's lonely.

He just wants to be inside the bedroom with you. My cats do the same thing when they want to be let inside the house. They're surprisingly adept at making noise even when they aren't loud meowers. >:-|

loneliness? or he may just want assurance you are still there. Couldn't have been nice to get neutered so maybe he wants assurance.

You snipped his family jewels, and then you shut your door to him; he's one unhappy dude!
