My hair is like yours and it's natural wavy, which I like. After I wash and comb it out, while it's still wet, I scrunch it up with a good gel (not mouse). Gel seems to work the best for me. If you have the time, when you hair is still semi-wet, again apply gel and then scrunch it up close to your head and put combs in your hair. When your hair is almost dry, take out the combs and it should be nice and curly.

Maybe you should see a hairstylist who could look at your hair and see if it might have any natural curl in it. My hair has natural curl, but I have to keep it layered in order for it to curl. If I let it grow out the weight of my hair pulls out the curl. If you don't have natural curl, layering it won't help. That's why I suggest seeing a hairstylist who may be able to tell if you do. For me, with it layered, all I have to do is wash it and let it air dry. Then I run a pick or a brush through it and I'm done. Hopefully, yours will be the same. (-: Good luck!

does your hair have a natural wave to it? when it is drying, is it wavy or curly?
to keep the frizz away, go to the health food store, get some aloe vera gel. wash and condition your hair as usual, then pour some of the get into your hands. it will be slightly lumpy, squish the lumps. rub into your hair, much like any other styling product. scrunch it up, let dry completely on its own. then comb your fingers thru it or use a very wide tooth comb. it will not be sticky, smelly, greasey, just not frizzy, shiney and will help condition your hair as well.
now, if your hair is too heavy to curl on its own, you will just have non frizz, shine and healthy hair..

Get the book Curly Girl - you can buy it on Amazon. My stylist recommended it to me and my hair has never looked better. Some tips - wash your hair with conditioner, not shampoo (it works and is not greasy), comb your hair before washing but don't brush it ever, especially when dry, use a gel and leave-in conditioner and let it air dry. It also has recommendations on how it should be cut. It really helped me.

Work a serum like John Frieda Frizz-Ease Extra Strength Hair Serum through wet strands and then let air dry. It costs about $10.00. I heard using a pomade helps but make sure not to put it near your scalp or you'll have a greasy look.

Use Matrix Sleek shampoo and conditioner, and then apply biosilk silk therapy to it while it is wet. Dry and I would use hot rollers.
