I am doing a basic informal wedding invite with time and location of the wedding and naming the location and time of the reception. Do I need to have a separate note with full addresses and directions? Or is simply naming location good enough?

It is not a requirement to put in directions ... just the location should be good enough. Your guests will be able to go to the hotel and ask for directions or find them on their own on the internet. It is an extra courtesy that some decide to do, but it is by no means necessary.

I agree that it is a good idea to give directions to those attending the reception from the ceremony. An idea that is used quite a bit is to have the printed directions on the back or inside of the program. You're guests won't have seperate things to keep up with and you can be sure most all of the will see the directions when they look at the program. :)

If you have invited several out of town guests, I think it would be wise to include directions. Also, some guests (such as elders) may not be familiar enough with computers and internet to look up directions themselves. I'm getting married in October 2008 and I plan to include detailed directions to both the wedding and the reception, since like 90% of my guests are from out of town.

Only if you want people to attend. You can't assume that everybody knows where the address is located. Yes, they can look it up on Yahoo maps or some other program but it is good form to send a map of the locations to help your guests to find you.

Naming the location and with street address is fine for locals but if you have out of towners at your wedding it would be a good idea to include directions for them.

I think that is good idea or include the exact physical address to the location so those with internet access can get direction on Mapquest

If you want people to get lost don't bother with directions.

I would put an address and directions from a major highway into the invitations (or send it out later after you receive their rsvp).

If they need any extra info they will let you know.

type out the directions and address on your computer, and print them out. Very simple. Then include then with an informal invitation to guests that are invited.

Directions are good.... and that why people can figure out where they are going. Like I have lots of older people who don't have the internet so they all need maps.
