sevetlanas s ,ok if muslims are issuing fatwa threats, christians do not threaten ,they kill directly what about the lives in iraq afghanestan, I don't support terrorist attack in any kind , I don't believe in killing innocent people what ever the cause is, believe me .and btw. you say YOU got offended when we were pissed off at the danish cartoonist..who do you think REALLY got offended?? as muslims, the right thing to do was to defend the prophet (even if he didnt ask for it) and the wrong thing to do is to go around deciding when people die.as a muslim, that was my job to defend, but i am telling you, people over here(middle east) are not as happy as you expect them to be about the terrorists, infact, they hate it much much more than you. so unless you've been treated that way by DECENT muslim, i dont see why you are feeling this way about all of us.

I agree. It is wrong to insult others for any reason! However, some people are ignorant and insecure. I admit my own ignorance of Muslims and Islam, but given the opportunity, I would love to learn. These people who are insulting others may be basing their views on 9/11 or the fact that the US is in a war in Iraq. Do not base your opinion of everyone on the actions of a few! As for your insecurities, walk in another's shoes, and don't judge someone for we all have faults but we are all different-- how boring if we were all the same! I am sorry if you have been insulted by ignorant people. It is best to just ignore them and feel sorry that they are trying to make up for their own short-comings by trying to lower everyone else.

Hello. We emailed several times earlier but you disabled email so I'm answering you here. I owe you an apology for my disrespect. I think you are a good person, a person who is caring and sensitive to the feelings and needs of others. I have a good personal opinion of you. But my friend, the question is, are you a good person because of Islam, or are you a good person in spite of Islam? As a Muslim, you must follow the Koran. The Koran says to follow Allah and His Messenger. In Sahih Bukhari Muhammad said to kill whoever changes his religion. If you're a good Muslim, you will kill me, because it is your duty. I respect you as a person, but it's hard for me to respect your religion, because my life as an ex-Muslim is very difficult, and I have known a great deal of pain and suffering. I cannot change my papers here. I would be imprisoned, tortured, maybe even killed. If I want to change my religion, I will have to leave Egypt, and my family will disown and disinherit me. I will never see my parents or my brothers again. You ask why I criticize Islam here, using a fake name. A fellow Egyptian ex-Muslim, a man not so different from me, did that a few months ago. His nam was Abdel Kareem Soleiman. He criticized Islam on his blog. He used his real name and even gave his location in Alexandria. He had the courage to show his face. What happened? He was arrested by the authorities and sentenced to four years in prison for defaming Islam and insulting Mubarak. Does that answer your question sister? II will never be able to use my real name or show my face when I want to speak against Islam because I would be tracked down and killed by Muslims. Maybe you would call them extremists for wanting to kill me, but in reality, they're just following Muhammad's orders and being good Muslims. Ali Dashti was a famous ex-Muslim who wrote a book in which he criticized Muhammad. He was arrested and imprisoned by the Iranian government of Ayatollah Khomeini. There he lived for three years. Eventually he was tortured so badly that he died of his injuries. He was 83 years old. What kind of religion would do that to a defenseless eldery man? You call Islam the perfect religion, the true religion, when in fact it is not even a good religion, it is the cause of so much war, terrorism, and bloodshed. You're a good person because you're not a good Muslim. If you were a good Muslim, you would have said I must be killed. However, I have nothing against you because I cannot hold you responsible for Islamic law. You are not a sheikh, or a mufti, or a judge. These are the people I have a conflict with. You're just a good person who happens to be Muslim.
I send my best wishes Nirvana. Forget what I said and take care of yourself.

For the same reason people are offensive about Christianity, with the added on effect of politics.
People are not encouraged to use their real names on YA, in order to prevent harassment.
Don't worry, some people will be very offensive about anything they do not agree with, and will tend to dig up all the dirt they can to throw.
As I have noticed some obnoxious Christians on this site (I am a Christian), I have also seen some obnoxious Muslims. They obviously don't help at all.
The best thing is not to develope a persecution complex, just pass on to more interesting and intelligent discussion items.
EDIT:
By the way, I see your question has had the effect of setting off some pretty strong criiticism of Islam. But you did ask for it this time.

The response to ignorance is to let them follow their way and for us to follow our way. We all have one form of struggle or another. There are 9 levels to Jihad and the ninth is confrontation. It rarely ever gets there...
However, they seem to be secure in their faith, but possess minimal reason. These... ANTI-INTELLECTUALS... read the newspaper about what 'goes on' in 'Islamic countries', feel genuinely, yet ignorantly offended and aroused by the drama, take it at face value, and post their self-seemingly heroic remarks which surely make them seem righteous about how much of an 'abomination' Islam is.
What ignorance! Perhaps when they grow a brain and possess a mind of their own, they will research it(Islam) for themselves without... bias... as I have.
They may not know that it was in fact Islam that brought Europe and the rest of the world out of the Dark Ages and advanced human culture with its progress in medicine, mathematics, and sciences. During the Dark Ages the world regarded any scientific advancement as 'heresy' or 'blasphemy'.
I can't blame all of them, however, as I was prejudice to Islam before I became Muslim. But I grew up, thank God. All we can do is hope that these people do the same...
I was raised Roman Catholic, enlightened as a Christian, pacified as a Buddhist, liberated as an Atheist, empowered as a 5 Percenter, confused as an Agnostic, and now complete as a Muslim.
I've gone through almost all of the major faiths with certitude and devotion, yet none satisfied my appetite for the combination of faith AND reason. No Christian, Buddhist, Jew, nor Atheist can EVER win a debate of religion with me, and I say that with defiance.
I've believed once that 'Jesus' was my savior... How foolish of me.
I've believed once in the concept of Nirvana... How gullible of me.
I've believed once that I, of all people, I, was God... How ignorant of me.
And I've even believed once that there was NO God... How unreasonable of me...
No matter what, keep to As-siraat al-mustaqeem (The Straight Way) regardless of opposition, previous failure, discouragement, and doubt. Leave them (non-Muslims) to wander blind, deaf, and dumb for verily, their end will be left to Allah's Judgement alone, NOT ours.
Truly a shame that they have no reason to match their faith. The Bible itself commands to 'love the Lord thy God... with all thy mind...' - Bible, Mark 12:30, which means THINK! And especially to 'Prove all things; hold fast that which is good' - Bible, 1 Thessalonians 5:21.
I've seen the fanatics of EVERY SINGLE DENOMINATION on this Earth call their actions the 'Will of God' from 'Muslims', 'Christians', 'Buddhists', etc.
Ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Allahu wah-dahu la shariykalahu wa ash-hadu an na Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu.
(I testify that there is no god but God. He is alone, He has no partners and I testify that Muhammad is His Slave and Messenger.)
My name is Jihad Abdur-Rahim Al-Waliyahuldin (Struggle, Slave of the Most Merciful, The Defender of the Faith).
I'm called Asadullah (The Lion of God) by non-Muslims.
Seek knowledge, O ye righteous, for knowledge is power; power is freedom; and freedom is peace.
As-salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu...
Peace be upon you and God's Mercy and His Blessing...
And above all, choose peace. Because one moment you're here...

There are many people here who insult Islam, Christianity and other religions too though these two take the brunt of it. We should be tolerant and ignore them because some of them are just trying to annoy people to have a good time; if you get annoyed, you are giving them the satisfaction of knowing that they have succeeded in annoying you. There are many similarities between religions, we can learn to celebrate them while understanding our differences.
And no, anyone who insults religions cannot prove anything - they just display their own shallowness and insecurities.
Thank God for tolerant Christians, Jews, Muslims & others.
Cheers & God bless.

my name is Maryam, and i'm a muslim.
thank u very much for posting suh a question, and after reading all those answers i'd just like to sort a few things out....
i do understand that a lot of u suffered due to what happened on 9/11 and all that, but plz watch what you're saying; u may think u know it all, but sometimes we, as human beings, tend to overlook certain things.
first of all, when it comes to terrorism and war, these things are strongly PROHIBITED in Islam. in my opinion, anyone who does something prohibited in Islam has no right whatsoever to to call themselves MUSLIMS (duh)
so please, when it comes to such issues (and others too, like some mentioned above), blame the individuals NOT the religion...
NO religion, be it Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hiduism or Buddhism encourages war and enmity; so please dont ever blame the religion........
yes, i do think it is better to discuss things, and not jump to conclusions....
i myself have so many non muslim friends, and we get along quite well....
and once again - don't blame our religion because of what some ppl who call themselves Muslims (only God knows the truth; it actually aint our business) do.
i do hope i atleast SOME of u understand what i'm trying to convey.
salaams

I wish we could discuss instead of hurting each other. Lumping all Muslims into the same group as terrorists is a grave mistake. Hating others doesn't get us anywhere. Instead of calling people names, we should come to a solution to end the ideas of foolish, stupid men who twist Islam. Allah condemns killing and suicide. If people were to educate themselves on the real Islam, they would apologize profusely. Also, America is seen as a terrorist country that has committed our own crimes over humanity. When you point your finger, four are pointing back.
"We should also be aware that much of the world regards Washington as a terrorist regime. In recent years, the US has taken or backed actions in Colombia, Nicaragua, Panama, Sudan and Turkey, to name a few, that meet official US definitions of "terrorism" - that is, when Americans apply the term to enemies."

Hi sweetheart. My name's Amy, and here are just a few examples of why I'm no friend to Islam.
The events on 9-11.
A Muslim doctor propositioned my teenage son, inviting him over for sex. When I confronted this man, he threatened to behead me and my children. I'm not kidding.
If threatening to behead children isn't an attack, then I don't know what is. To me, it was a typical terroristic threat, and I now have a security system because of it.
It's the little moments like this that give all of Islam a bad name.
I have lost 2 friend's to Saddam Hussein, one in a terrorist attack.
My best friend's family members were slaughtered by the Muslim Turks in the 1915 Armenian genocide. This came about because the Armenians, who are Christians, would not convert to Islam. There were over 1.5 MILLION Armenians killed by Muslims. Yeah, Islam's a real peaceful religion, not evil at all (note sarcasm).

To be fair, there are people in pretty much all religions who will bash other religions. Some people just cannot have tolerance. I have read people on here who seem to think that muslims are sub-human. This is the kind of belief that perpetuates the feelings of hatred between muslims and christians.
These people need to stop lumping all muslims into the terrorist category. Christians have had a fare share of monsters on their side. It is not fair to consider all christians monsters because of Hitler, the KKK, the Crusades, and the inquisition (plus many more instances).

If you can't understand why people are disgusted by Islam, try reading the newspaper. People would not be disgusted if Islam wasn't so disgusting.
They're slaughtering women and kids in market places. They're blowing up each other's mosques. They're destroying their own dams, pipelines, and everything else as fast as they're being rebuilt.
Islam refuses to join the modern world. It treats its women worse than cattle. The women are so brain-washed that they accept that treatment.
When Islam decides to live in peace with the rest of the world it will get the respect of the world.
If you think people make a thing about insulting Islam, read the questions and comments by Muslims, they're expert at insulting other beliefs.
