It really depends on where the wedding is being held, the size and the personality of the bride and groom.

Most weddings are formal, meaning cocktail dresses for women and suits for men.

If the invitations says black tie, then women should wear evening gowns and men tuxes.

Causal really depends on the venue and can mean anything from sundresses to jeans. I'm personally not a fan of causal weddings.

It really depends on the time of the wedding and reception. Morning/afternoon weddings call for a more sun dress look, while evening wedding guests are more likely to wear a suit and tie. If the reception is black tie optional, then chances are most of the guests will be in tuxedos and gowns.

you can place the dress code in your invite or people will make a judgment based on the time of day and place held most people go with a Sunday best look when picking something so men in a jacket with slacks tie and women a casual dress or pants and blouse but if your having a more casual wedding or during a extremely hot time of year you may find more of the short sleeved collar dress shirt and dockers and women with sundresses and wraps i have never been to a formal tux and gown wedding but that's maybe because most people i know don't throw that type of wedding but if you let people know it will go from there!

I think it has a lot to do with where you live. I've been to several weddings in my area (western WA) that are evening weddings and seen guests in everything from slacks and ties to shorts and polos-even at church weddings. Around here it seems that many people don't get dressed up for weddings, with teens and young adults wearing the most inappropriate clothing.

I alway dress business or business casual, usually in slacks and a dressy blouse.

If it is an evening wedding, a simple gown or cocktail dress is very appropriate. For an afternoon wedding, a dressy suit, a knee length dress is quite appropriate.

Depends on the location of the wedding.

Church or huge ornate wedding hall, semi formal wear.

Beach or park or house or firehall, casual.
