Familiarize yourself with the location of the pedals and how to operate the brakes. Lower your seat so you can put both feet on the ground. Hold yourself as upright as possible and push off. The faster you go, the easier it is to stay upright. Finding an area with a slight decline helps (not a hill).

If you must have a third party know that you don't know how to ride a bike, go to a local bike shop when it is not busy and express how you'd like to learn how to ride. I'm sure they'll oblidge you (and maybe even sell you a bike).
