You have every right to be confused but that's what computers do best ; THEY CONFUSE YOU !

The reason your friends tell you to install a firewall is that the one that comes with Windows is NOT a very good one.

But Bill Gates knew that so he spent millions and invented an excellent firewall and he offers it to you FREE.

It's called DEFENDER.

So just log in to www.microsoft.com and look for "Downloads" When you see DEFENDER, download it to your computer.

The instructions are easy and once on your hard drive Defender will work all day long without your help.

All the gurus say it does a great job. So get DEFENDER right now !

it really depends on what you are going to be doing on the computer. Most virus protection programs have firewalls already and windows has one as well. I use the internet for a multitude of things so I only have MS Windows XP firewalls. If you use a firewall and plan to do lots of things on the web, you should turn it off, or use the XP firewall. This is because firewalls can stop you from doing things that are otherwise okay, especially things you trust.

Windows has its own firewall. You don't need to install another one.

Well it all depends. You don't "need" it. Most firewalls like the ones in Norton, Mcaffee end up doing more harm than good.

I assume most computers come with a firewall already in, but it doesn't hurt to be safe.
