~WOW! Lucky you!! It sounds beautiful! My hair is about the same and the rain is the worst! Try products like Pantene pro-v Restoratives frizz control shampoo & conditioner! (They cost a little more - $4.97 @ Target in eastern VA. - but they are soooo worth it!) And I know you don't like the 'Frizz Ease' line (neither did I, but my daughter kept pushing me to try this one..) If you put a SMALL amount of Frizz Ease Syrum in your hair, (it comes in a tiny little pump style bottle,) this will cut the frizz out. These 3 produces - together - are a miracle worker for frizz control!
Aslo, NEVER let anyone do a "razor cut" or cut your hair dry! Both are really bad on naturally curly hair.

I have curly hair that gets very frizzy as well. But the frizzease did NOT work for me. Neither did the sun silk stuff. I will tell you however don't cut your hair unless you want to spend a lot of time on it in the morning. I just recently got my hair cut. They took off much more than I wanted off. and I spent about 45 minutes to an hour fixing my hair in the morning. I have tried every product there is and only a very few have worked for my hair. The one that works the best is one my friend got in california I believe. I have not been able to find it around here. When Mine is straight it doesn't go sleek and shiny either. I have no clue how to get it like that.

I'll be checking back here to see what others have to say.

I always had my hair pulled back for the same reasons. Here's a summary of everything I've tried and the results.
* Some hair spray helps to keep the frizz down - you can use the touchably soft kind, not the helmet head kind.
* I had good results with Finesse mousse. Use that or hair spray, not both.
* I tried pomades but they felt heavy and dulled the shine. Frizz Ease did cut down on the fly-away but also left my hair feeling greasy and stiff so i stopped using it long ago.
* I then tried a shampoo that's gentle enough for every day plus a great deep-hydrating conditioner - this is what I finally settled on and have been using it successfully for years. It's called All Ways Natural but it's discontinued and hard to find. I've found it at small beauty supply shops and have paid as little as $3 per bottle.

It turns out my hair was just naturally dry so it would seem to suck up moisture from the air and get frizzy. By switching to a shampoo that is not harsh I stopped stripping all the natural oils from my hair. I also use a quick 3-minute rinse out conditoner that has lots of natural oils like jojoba and doubles as a detangler in the shower. I have shoulder length dark brown hair, cut sort of like Janet Jackson's '93 album cover. I just use my fingers to separate the curls while it's still wet then towel dry. Every now and then (monthly?) you'll want to use a stronger shampoo like Neutrogena to remove any buildup. Otherwise this routine is zero maintenance.

I haven't had to use hair spray or anything other than shampoo and conditioner and have gotten more compliments on my hair. People have said it feels silky and the curls are perfect. I hope this helps you too!

PS - I would not recommend braiding your hair. This would frizz my hair and would take weeks to get it back to it's natural curl.

Have you tried a relaxer? If not that would be a great thing as long as you got someone who has done them professionally for a while. It will bring the curl out, and you won't have to straighten it and it will take away the friz then you can get your short cool cut. If this isn't something you would consider, than there are fabulous products that Redken puts out that are great at making the hair look just like it has had a relaxer, and use a ceramic flat iron. Remember, a relaxer and a straightner are not the same. the relaxer is a lot stronger product.

Unless you want the short fro look (which alot of people can pull off) I'd say grow it out long. You could braid it, or leave some curly and just straighten the bangs.

Stop dying/bleaching your hair and ask the hairdresser about back stat and what it could do for you. Look thru her books for a good short curly style. Good luck.
