Depends on the jurisdiction. For retard states in the deep south, even felony convictions are not necessarily a bar. For serious jurisdictions, tho', where they get to pick and choose among wannabes, any conviction will likely be held against you.

It is not hard to become a police officer. I am sure a couple of misdemeanors are alright. I know a retarded kid from my school who actually became a cop. Always had some screws loose. Would run around the hallways and herass the girls and creep everybody out. Yeah, now he is an police officer in the great state of Georgia. Why would you want to make that much money for making peoples lives miserable? Try something like teaching or nursing, we have enough pigs...

Mostly....no, but it depends on what the misdemeanors are and in which state you are in.
In Colorado (only) the misdemeanors that can prevent you becoming a cop include (but not limited to):
Domestic violence
Assault 3
Urinating in public (indecent exposure)

(there are time limits to these as well). If you want to know more I would check with your local academy or your states peace officer standards and training board (P.O.S.T) as they can tell you exactly what wouldn't be permitted.
