I was wondering if, as a spouse, I am eligible. My husband & I are currently separated, but have been married for 10+ yrs. He is willing to transfer, but wants me to find out the information because he is not going to use his G.I. Bill (& it expires w/in the next 5 yrs.) I have scoured the net looking for some in-depth detail, but I can't seem to find anything & our local recruiting office has not been of any assistance. I was wondering when we divorce, will I still be able to receive these benefits even if we are not married? Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Call the VA, they would be able to give you answers. Also try contacting the Registrar's office for the school you are interested in going to.

He would have to be an E-5 and be on his second enlistment, and reenlisting for another 4 years, and in his reenlistment papers he would have to state something along the lines of

I JOE BLOW WISH TO GIVE ALL (OR STATED PART) OF MY MONTGOMERY GI BILL TO MY WIFE JANE BLOW.

If he has children he can give them some too but the requirements of him stating it in his reenlistment still stands.

Once the GI Bill is transferred the spouse or child has to use the GI Bill within 10 years after the Military Member gets out.

spouses are NOT eligible. once you divoice, you lose every bit of benefit you ever qualfied for.

currently, only about five Army specialties qualify.. the SM must be an E6 and re enlist before they can transfer the benefits to a dependant child.

As of right now VA benefits are not transferrable, the service member is the only one who can use the GI Bill.
