It wasn't replaced by the Focus,
The Focus was first made in 1998 and the Escort was last made in 2000

it was late 99 early 2000 when the escort was replaced by the focus.

last Escort was 2001 (and was a fleet only buy) .. it got replaced by the Focus in 2000 in north america

Long ago; was replaced by Focus.
Normally, when an automaker phases out a model, they overlap for a year or two before selling only the replacement model.
