I want to install Autocad 2007 on my pc which has XP installed on Pentium III processor. The system runs extremely slow. I want to downgrade it to Windows 98 or 2000 Pro whichever is good. Autocad 2007 supports Windows 2000 Pro. But I don't know how to do this.

I downloaded Windows 2000 Pro image file & burned it as an image on a CD. I don't know how to create a boot disk so I burned the image. Is that correct?? What should I do now to remove XP & install 98 or 2000?? What about the drivers & applications on the pc??

Please help!! I would be grateful if u can tell me how to go about this step-by-step.

Thanks a lot!!

I'd strongly suggest Windows 2000. It's just like XP but without all the flash. It also runs faster and the drivers for hardware are usually compatible with both OSes. Windows 98 lacks the stability of 2000 and XP so I don't recommend it. Kubuntu lacks so much it's not even worth going into.

Burning the image to a CD is the correct way to do it. If your system boots from a CD you can just put the CD in and restart the computer. If not then you should go to www.windows.com and get a boot floppy for Windows 2000.

Pentium 3 is a good processor so I disagree with the guy telling you to upgrade to a P4. If you decide to upgrade your system the cheapest route is to get a Socket 939 motherboard and an AMD Athlon64 processor (much better than Pentium 4). Or if you want a major upgrade you could get an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and a compatible motherboard.

Based on my experience with 98 and using older programs with XP, I would strongly recommend you stay with XP which is very tollerant of older programs (I regularly run QBASIC and CADD6 out of a DOS window happily) Normally Windows requires an installation process, so I don't know if you will be able to just copy the program. I find Express Rip useful for getting stuff off burned CD's
But I also recommend you stuff your machine with cheap memory. I was astounded at the change in ordinary tasks (like e-mail) when I went up to 640M and Giga memory if you don't have it, will make life faster.

I used to run Autocad on 2000 and it ran fine. 2000 is less taxing on your PC and I do reccommend downgrading the OS. XP doesn't have much over 2000 so it's a good swap. Plus swapping the OS will clean up your system which will make it even faster. Good luck

Finding drivers to support your current devices when downgrading is quite the task.

You'd almost be better off just adding the other OS as an addition to the XP OS, dual bootable.

2000 is way better than 98...but I would suggest that you upgrade your processor, MoBo, and RAM...you could get a P4 MoBo combo for about $150 now...

If you must, you'd put in your 2000 CD and format your hard drive, erasing everything. 2000 is okay as far as the drivers go...it will know most of what you have, hardware-wise.

the real answer is not any. homestead windows XP will understand the slave force as partitions to the completed gadget and could no longer understand the separate working structures on those partitions. Microsoft states that so as to have a twin (or extra) boot gadget, you may desire to install the older variations of homestead windows first before you install homestead windows XP. And in case you are trying this, each and each OS you prefer to be waiting besides to could desire to be put in on a separate partition from the different.

I dont recommend that you downgrade because I do not feel you will get the desired result. Upgrade, instead! Get kubuntu at www.kubuntu.org, install it, then if you have compatability issues with it, then you can get a Windows Emmulator, such as WINE, and run any operating system you want!
