What's are some vodkas that are cheaper than Smirnoff but better than Georgi? What's the best in that range?

I like Gordon's Sterling, it mixes well. $20 can get you a large bottle that you can decant and refrigerate and store the large bottle in the freezer. Look for old school vodkas like Gordon's or Fleishman's they were top shelf 30-50 years ago.

But if you are having a martinti or gimlet go for the good stuff your taste buds will love you for it.

Gordon's would be in that range. You might be interested in this experiment done by a few guys with vodka that was picked up by the AP. Supposedly, the difference between cheap vodka and costly vodka is that there are more impurities and off flavors in cheap vodka after the distillation.

These guys ran vodka through a britta water filter about 30 itmes, and came up with a vodka that beat absolute in a taste test.

Like most liquors, you're going to get what you pay for. The lower the price, the lower the quality of vodka.

The thing with vodka though is, its harder for the average drinker to notice much of a change, especially if its being mixed with some kind of mixer. I personally find Smirnoff red-label is the cheapest as far as "decent vodka."

My suggestion would be Kamchatka or Skol... anything in a plastic bottle isn't going to put much of a dent in your wallet.

all vodka is swill, it is deigned to be flavorless and neutral, brand names mean nothing. as long as it is prepared properly it will all taste the same.
