I would comfort them while they passed, but then I'm a pagan and I am aware that my path isn't for everyone.
As a matter of fact my atheist friend just passed, after a long battle with an auto-immune disease, last month, and I did just that... I visited her at least twice a month to clean her house and make sure she had what she needed and just sit and chat with her because I knew that I wouldn't be able to do that much longer...
Peace...

I would not try to convert them even if that was possible. My brother called a Catholic priest when our dad way dying in the hospital. Now our dad was about as Catholic as Pontius Pilate and so are we. I think it was an insult.

Why would I try to convert them if I'm already an atheist myself?

I would comfort them and make them as comfortable as I could while I told them I loved them and wouldn't leave them, until they were gone. My prayers would be under my breath. I might say that God is waiting for them, but I sure would NOT preach!!

If he/she were a personal friend, I'd confort them. I don't like the thought of trying to convert people, seems very arragont.

Ha ha! The Irony is that we are all terminally ill if time is the disease. I ask all who answered before me to re-read there answer and ask themselves if they answered honestly.
AJM , you can believe what you want , but will faith heal an amputee?

I cannot think of anything an atheist would have to fear about dieing, except the process (pain). I would have fun with them as much as possible.
