Cause and Effect of Sexually Transmitted Diseases?
I've noticed my father going out and it seems there is a rumor at his work saying that he's played with alot of women. So I was wondering, which sexually transmitted disease would cause these symptoms:

-skin breakout (blistering all over arm)
-lost weight dramatically (about half his size, yea, he was a little chubby before! But NOT TOO MUCH now!!!

Is this related to Hep B, C, Aids, STDs, HIV, or what??

Thank you.

Hi xxArisu,

I had just spent 20 minutes replying to your Q and then my net access dropped me! I'll shorten my answer. 1st I am not a health professional. My experience with STD etc is based on my working with doctors that have dealt with them. OK then....

Of all the diseases you mentioned only one has significant weight loss such as your father has experienced is HIV/AIDS...primarily full blow AIDS. However, non of the literature I have read mentions blisters as a symptom. One major symptom is a sever cancer that presents as red/brown blogges/spots on on the skin...everywhere.

Hep B & C are viruses attacking the liver. Contracted by sexual contact and infected needles (#1 by drug use). Hep C can also be contracted by an infected blood transfusion prior to 1992.
Others STDs such as syphilis and gonorrhea have none of the syptoms you mention.

Shingles is caused by stress and fatiuge. It can causes BLISTERS on the face mainly around the eyes. In some cases is can spreand to the toros and "possibly" to the arms. But weight loss is not a symptom.

Scabies is cause my mites and has no sympton of weight loss...but a rash is possible.

Regarding you question if the diseases you mention being contracted without sex or sexual contact. HIV/AIDS mcan be transmitted via the exchange of bodily fluids including sharing dirty needles. KIssing...no.
Again Hep B & C by infected needles.

That's about all I have come up with. Obviously your father should he a physician...an infectious disease speacialist as well as a primary care doctor to be tested for other STD and possibily cancer.the

Sorry I don't have any real good news for you and your father.

I wish you all the best in getting this resolved. If you have any other questions you think I might help answer just click on my icon ID and my e-mail is listed on my profile.

Hi.
Its very hard to determine if your dad actually has an STD unless he tests himself. But i will still give some possibilities.
When you say dramatic weight loss, HIV comes to mind. But remember that this is a long time disease process and this would mean that he has been infected probably for longer that 5 years.
The blisters: Are they like little rashes or real blisters with fliud oozing out of them? Are they darkened? Are they only on the arm, or on the shoulder too? Does he say they burn? This could be Herpes Zoster, which would confirm the HIV hypothesis.

Other symptoms that could lead you to this diagnosis are recurrent fevers that dont go away even with treatment or go away for one day and return. Recurrent diarrhea. Mouth thrush
( Wounds in the mouth with whitish or pinkish round edges)

Your father should be tested for all STD ASAP to rule out this serious disease.

Skin breakouts are normal and could be due to allergies and yes, allergies can just appear all of a sudden. And the losing of weight could mean no more than him trying to looking more appealing to the ladies. Men / women gain and lose weight all the time in the hopes of catching someone's eye. Plus I'm sure your father is also getting to the "mid-life crisis" time and men do act weird then.
