Wear several light layers - that way you can add and remove as necessary to be comfortable.

The UK is not 'very' cold. We had -28 last week. That is cold.
OK. forget alcohol. That lowers your body temperature.
Exercise
Get in a sleeping bag. Your body heat will form a warm micro climate (better to get in with someone else)
Eat energy rich and high carbohydrate food
Drink hot liquids or get a machine the Mountain rescue have which blows warm air into your lungs for hypothermia victims)
In cold weather your body does all it can to protect the internal organs by withdrawing warm blood from the nether regions, resulting in frostbite. Best to generate heat internally and stop that heat escaping by wearing a hat and warm clothing.

Are we on the same planet...it's not cold in the UK let alone very cold!

If you are feeling the cold at all then eat more carbs and wear thin layers of clothing, warm socks and some form of head gear...use gloves if you go outside.

Keep moving. If I'm cold and I need to go out I walk it. When I get back I'm hot. or before I go out I put warm cloths on which has been on the radiator and put a very warm coat on. When I get to work I have a hot drink.

I take cold drinks so to lower my own temperature and therefore "feel" less cold. The same applies for hot weather: I take a hot drink. The difference in your body temperature and external temperature is what makes you feel hot or cold. However, in cold weather, you should insulate your body as well so wear proper clothes that keep your temperature in and in hot weather, keep your skin pores open and exposed to let the skin cool faster.

It's not cold! The sun is shining, the thermometer says 12 degrees centigrade. It's lovely in the sunshine today. Stop moaning!!

A hat is one of the best things as you loose most of your body heat from your head, think it's something like 80% ,bit like loft insulation heat rises...
