This is a terrible situation. My husband had a 1/2 glass of a vodka cranberry cocktail left out on a sofa table overnight. Last night our son tipped the glass over and started screaming. I am not sure if he tasted it or not- obviously we were too alarmed cleaning him up and comforting him. Since then, (it has been over 12 hours) he has vomited once and had diahrrea twice this morning. I have given him pedialyte this last hour. His spirits are great, no fever, etc. All last night he was fine- he didn't seem out of it or incoherant. We are very responsible parents, and this was a completley unexpected situation that is not common in our household- so please no judgments! I'd just like opinions from parents or a health professional if this sounds as if he is simply passing any possible consumption or if I should be worried and seek medical treatment. My instincts tell me he is just fine- I just don't understand the diahrea and vomiting this morning.

I think the vomiting and diarrhea is completely coincidental to the drink spilling incident. Even if he had a taste it wouldn't hurt him (although not recommended because it could give him an acquired "taste" for alcohol).

Your instincts are right on...he's fine.

I agree with the others. He will be fine. Accidents happen all the time It doesnt take away from the fact that you are good parents. We all make mistakes, even those who think that they dont they do as well. The cranberry juice has way too much acid in it for the little fellow. Follow your instincts.

well he proly didn't even drink any and has a virus, those are going around. But my ex did something like that, i dropped my daughter off at his house and when i went in there were beer bottles everywhere but i know she drank some cuz i actually saw her doing it! She was fine however (her father was not seeing how i screamed at him for an hour and punched him! Hey i was very upset!) anyway the chances are yes he is fine and that he just has a lil virus or something along those lines. Just keep an eye on him and keep him hydrated.

Its probably coincidental...sounds like he probably has a virus..it is fine about the vodka your son would have to consume more than what was in that glass to hurt him. I have been a pediatric nurse for 6 years and have never heard of a child consuming enough alcohol to hurt them. It taste so bad they will not drink much or it.

The child must be older than an "infant," to have been left alone, and to be able to get him/herself to the sofa table. Would she/he perhaps be a toddler?

The vomiting and diarrhea could be a coincidence--he/she could be coming down with something--OR, he/she did get a taste of that vodka. To be on the safe side, I would phone the doctor, and see what he or she says about it.

He may have consumed some alcohol, but a half-glass, mixed with cranberry juice would not have harmed him. It's more likely that if he ingested any that the cranberry juice was too acidic for him.
