I know the cost for a civil ceremony is £43.50 here in Nottingham at the registry office, £243.50 at another venue, but is this the same for church weddings?

There is usually a standard fee, but it often varies depending on the church. It's best to ask the priest in charge to get an accurate idea.

From the Church of England's website
"Q/ How much will it cost?
A/ The legal fees for a marriage cover the publication of the banns, the marriage service and a certificate of marriage. These fees are fixed centrally and will be between £170-£250.
These fees do not cover any extras you may wish to have for the service, such as a choir, organist, bell-ringers, special lighting, fees for video recording and so on. Check with your parish priest."

Depending on religion of individual churches they all vary. Some have set fees others don't. In the Roman Catholic church it is a donation you give to the priest marrying you, not for the church although you would pay for the flowers, organist etc. This money is purely for the priest. It seems most give it to good causes such the Foreign Missions of local charities etc.

It was £250 for the church 9 months ago but I think all churches are different.

My daughter is getting married in June. On going to book the church, she thought she would have to make a donation, she was gobsmacked to be told it would cost her over £400. Id expect westminster Abbey forthat much.
