Your metabolism is slowing down. Metabolism is the rate at which your body burns energy. This is perfectly normal. If I where you, I would:
Burn more calories than you eat. Continue to eat enough food though. About 2000 calories a day from healthy foods will be about right. If you do not keep a healthy diet you will do yourself more damage.
Cut your fat intake.
Eat three cups of fat free low cal yogurt a day (make sure it has live cultures in it) and pineapples. This helps you break down your food and promotes weight loss.
Do 45-60 min. of aerobic exercise a day (preferably before you eat in the morning). This will attack the fat. Try to supplement your training with some running, running stairs or hills, and cycling. Mix it up, it will keep your body guessing.
Do 30 min of weight training three times a week. This will build lean muscle which will in turn burn fat.
Keep moving all the time. Tap you feet while at the computer, tap you hands on your legs while walking. Keep moving and keep burning calories.
I lost 40 lbs in two months and have kept it off for eight more months doing this. I also took my body fat % from 30% to 14% and my waist from 36 inches to 31 inches.
If you try this for about two months and it doesn't help, go see a doctor. This may be a medical issue.

I too have noticed what you are saying in myself. I'm a bloke but like to stay in shape to a certain degree. I could eat for Britain when I was younger and put on nothing but now at 24 I have to exercise a fair bit to keep my size down, I do eat better but still eat too much junk food.
So to answer the question it's a combination of your metabolism slowing down and less exercise (office jobs are bad for this). You say you've reduced the calorie intake, this is a start but I noticed that when my exercise levels dropped, even if I reduced the calories, I would gain weight. The exercise element is so important, that's why I now have a gym membership :)

Size 10 is fine!
Do not starve yourself, your metabolism will enter starvation mode and start saving the little calories it can get and store them as fat!
There are normal metabolic changes with age, you are not a teenager anymore. So do not worry about it.
Just eat properly as you are, avoid fatty foods and sugar (also check on what you drink there is a lot of hidden sugar in many drinks). Avoid white bread, white rice, pastry,...
Do 30 minutes of cardio two to three times a week and some toning exercise and you will be great.
Have you thought of the possibility that you look better on a size 10? more curvy?, more woman like? Who knows?

Whoa, don't lessen the food girl whatever you do. Bizzarely it can have the opposite effect and can throw your metabolism into turmoil. The absolute best approach is to vary your exercise routine until you find what works for you. It has to be a routine though, can't just stagger it or skip it. And, erm, to be fair, you don't sound like you're big at all. Why do girls want to be skinny. I mean fat isn't good, but from a personal perspective, skinny women are odd looking. You sure you're not just over critical of yourself?

i was the same. was very small at 8 and half stone when i was 18 then things changed evne though i had a healthier lifestyle. Im now 11 stone (and i do have big bones) but so much curvier and happier at 23. I could be slightly more toned but have a pretty good body. Stay healthy its just your body doing a bit of changing will keep happening even though you thought it would stop in your teens!!!

Perhaps your metabolism changed. Have you been stressed out lately, that could also be a factor in your recent weight gain.
