Note: These are my opinions please do not take them personally.
How all religions started?
Some people lived in far africa. They followed some way of living life which became their religion. Some lived in India where they followed another way of living life and they named it as Hinduisum. This way different religions were formed.
Religion is actually a way of living of life in a particular style.
But we all attached this with GOD and got seperated.
Though we all say GOD is same, GOD is one, but nobody of actually understand this. And we keep fighting with each other thinking that we are doing great job for our religion.
The one who actully understood that GOD is really one, quitly got out of this fight and started their journey towards GOD.
When everyone truely understand that GOD is really one, there will be peace.
Riligion is a great illusion. It is very difficult to break it and bring people out of it.
If you have understood it, you have already started your jorney my friend.

Dear Aikhen,
There is no such thing as true religion because all religion is manmade and there are nearly as many religions as there are men.
Relationship with the Author of Life is something else entirely. We can only be in a right Relationship by accepting Jesus Christ as our LORD and Savior.

True religion is a set of practices. But if your talking about true faith or Truth then that is something entirely different.

A true religion must come from an authorized source, and that source is God and entails understanding the laws of God because the proper execution of these laws ultimately leads one out of material entanglement.
"There is only one true religion, but there can be faiths of several kinds. It is therefore more fitting to say, 'This is..., this man is of this or that faith"—Jewish, Muhammadan, Christian, Catholic, Lutheran-'than he is of this or that religion.' "True religion teaches causeless love of God. It does not say, "I love God because He supplies me nice objects for my sense gratification."or "He healed me from this disease" That is not love. God is great, God is our eternal father, and it is our duty to love Him.
God says: "Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."

None. Religion is orthogonal to truth. The only human endeavor that really looks for truth is science. Science tests its claims and is willing to throw out beliefs that don't fit the evidence.
Religion on the other hand makes grandiose claims and never tests them. In fact religious believers sometimes hold onto beliefs long after they have been shown to be false.
