We are a family of "hand me down pets". We were recently given a green quaker bird. I know nothing about them. Any info you can offer will be a great help. Thank you!!!

With quakers the only sure way to sex them is by DNA tesing. You send a blood sample or freshly plucked feathers away for testing .
You do not need to know the sex unless you are intending to breed this bird.
Care sheets and training tips are free on my web site.

I have 2 quakers male and female (not a mated pair) watch the way they stand on the perch, the female will stand with her feet apart and the male will have his feet closer together. But the only way to really tell is to have them DNA tested by a vet. as far as info on quakers I think it would be your best bet is to search on the Internet or buy books on them. They could be a great bird to have, I have a lot of fun with my male, he talks a lot, plays with us but my female was giving to me because she was abandoned, she was used as a breeder and she is very mean, I'm actually looking for another home for her. Anyways good luck with your new friend, one pointer when you are not home keep a t.v. on for you bird, children shows work great to help it talk and he won't be lonely while you are gone.
