While tonsils are helpful for keeping bacteria out of the lower throat, and can help prevent infection. However, some people's tonsils actually cause more infection than they protect against, so they get sick more often with infections of the tonsils, such as tonsilitis and strep throat. Also, the tonsils and a similar tissue that is removed often at the same time as tonsils, called the adenoids, can become more infected during sinus season.
For people whose tonsils make them sicker, it is important for them to have their tonsils removed.

Some people suffer from tonsilitis which is the inflamation of the tonsils and becomes very painful for the person. Removal causes the problem to end.

The tissue that makes up the tonsils is very spongy and absorbant.. It can cause a lot of infection and when some people constantly struggle with the infections it's cheaper to just have them removed than keep taking antibiotics for it.

Generally tonsils are removed from younger children after they suffer from chronic infections.
Tonsils can also be removed from adults as part of the procedure to help Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
They are removed because they are causing more trouble than they are worth.

sometimes people have them removed because they are so infected that they cant clear up with antibioticsor the infections continues to reoccur.Your tonsils are part of your bodys defense or in other words immune system. They swell to try and keep bacteria and virus' from going any further into your body or until you r white blood cells are high enough to start fighting this off. Also it use to be very commomn to have tonsils removed but now doctors really try not to unless it is absolutely necessery.

They don't remove them their selves. Tonsils are taken out when they become infected over and over again. It often takes years before a surgeon will agree to perform a tonsillectomy
