Does anyone know if it's possible to start your own modeling career and actually get paid for it? I dont mean sign up for some classes that you have to pay for. The way the "real" models got successful was that they were 'discovered' by an agent. But It's not like I'm in Hollywood where I can just get discovered by some casting scout in a grogery store or something. I live in Hinesville, GA. As you see, you probably havent heard of it, so you can bet theres not alot here. The closest big town is Savannah. But Still, I am asking of anybody who models in any form and actually gets paid for it. Did you have to really go to school for it, or is school just another way for them to make money off us?...I know that when an agent really wants you, they cover all your expenses... THanx for your ideas!

School may seem like a rip-off, but some are legitimate. Most of those are in NY or LA. In all reality, you will have to leave Hinesville to get your career off of the ground. You might get some local advertising gigs, and that could help you out. You will need a photospread to send to agents (you can't do this without an agent.)

A school will teach you some things, and give you exposure, but you can get that at any school. Art schools need models for students to paint, sculpture, and photograph. I hear that Savannah School of Arts is very good for that sort of thing. Find out who they go through for models and then contact that agency. Send pictures (spend some money on good quality head shots) and see what happens.
