1st Corinthians 13 states the following about love,
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
Lots of the critics of the Bible state that it's message is just not relevant in today's world. For those of you who have that opinion, can you please point out what isn't relevant today about that passage?
Thanks!

Who changed God's Word? Right, no one can, so it's revelancy has no time. God never changes, so we need not change what His Word says. Thanks for the Loving reminder -- it keeps us in line when we get offended.

I think it's very relevant for today. Especially here at Y/A. We need to be patient and kind, not proud or rude, not self-seeking or easily angered, keeping no record of wrong. Not delighting in evil but rejoicing in truth, protecting and trusting and hoping and persevering.

Certainly that's an idealized definition of love. Very few humans could practice unconditional love even if they wanted to which they don't.
Consider that the strongest love is probably a mother's love for her children and it's not unconditional. The cutiest baby will get the most love from his or her mother. Some people are more "loveable" than others. My mother despised me and most of the people I've encountered in life have either hated me or been indifferent to me. The woman I married hates me. I have no friends and no god. So, gushing about love definitely has no relevance to my life.

This book was written by Paul. It has very little to do with other messages given in the Bible concerning "love".
In general "love" is pretty much sent to the back burner. All marriages were arranged by parents so the only love would have to be a kind of "Stockholm syndrome" love.
Other passages that show the loving feeling in the Bible:
Love?
"I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children." (Leviticus 26:22)
"Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourself every girl who has never slept with a man." (Numbers 31:17-18)
"The Lord commands: "... slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women" (Ezechial 9:4-6)
"When the Lord delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the males .... As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves." (Deuteronomy 20:13-14)
"You will eat the fruit of the womb, the flesh of the sons and daughters the Lord your God has given you." (Deuteronomy 28:53)
"The Lord said to Joshua [...] 'you are to hamstring their horses.' " (Exceedingly cruel.) (Joshua 11:6)
"... Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword and; also the women and little ones.... every male and every woman that has lain with a male you shall utterly destroy." (Judges 21:10-12)
"This is what the Lord says: Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have; do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and *** .... And Saul ... utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword." (1 Samuel 15:3,7-8)
"The people of Samaria must bear their guilt, because they have rebelled against their God. They will fall by the sword; their little ones will be dashed to the ground, their women with child ripped open." (Hosea 13:16)
"A curse on him who is lax in doing the LORD's work!
A curse on him who keeps his sword from bloodshed!" (Jeremiah 48:10)

It's because there are two types of love. Romance, with all it's mind games, ego trips, and power plays. Those are the people who will say it's irrelevant. Love is a game and many a tear has to fall in the game.
And then there is soul love, two people caring about the feelings of the other as much as they care about their own. Loving each other as God loves us. This kind lasts and lasts and lasts.
People often mistake "soul love" when it's really only passionate ego love.

He makes the rain fall on the in basic terms as properly because of the fact the unjust. think of roughly this. As a determine, do you like your toddlers? Are you happy with them whilst they behave and are obedient? Are you indignant with them whilst they act up or attempt to insurrection? in case you like your toddlers even with what they do, this is unconditional love. this is lots a similar way God loves us. Jesus stated that there is no extra advantageous love than for a guy to place his existence down for his friends. examine John 3:sixteen. i ought to pass on and on yet i will close with this. God stated that he will by no skill leave nor forsake us. this is actual unconditional love.

Yes also :Tolerance and the Bible
From there Elisha went up to Bethel. While he was on his way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him. "Go up baldhead," they shouted, "go up baldhead!" The prophet turned and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then two shebears came out of the woods and tore forty two of the children to pieces. (2 Kings 2:23-24 NAB)

The message of scripture as a whole is more than relevant for today. Only unregenerated, blind non-believers will be nay-sayers when it comes to the truth of scripture.
And may God be eternally praised......

I agree with the message and live my life that way...so much so that now and then some comment that I'm not the norm in that sense and find me rare...nice...yet, rare as it's not the 'norm today'. That's sad isn't it ? . . . So, I'll just sit to the side here and read the other answers.

The mani reason why this beautiful description of love is rediculed today is that people are full of self love and and pride, they can not see that love is related to humility.
