These 2 antibiotic have some cross over in the type of infections they treat. The primary and most significant infection that Zithromax treats that Augmentin does not is staphylococcus...a very resistant infection.
Do you recall if you doctor told you if you have a staph infection?
Augmentin attacks the infections that cause urinary tract infections (UTI) if that might be something your doctor is treating. Zithromax is not as effective in treating UTIs/
As always if your physician didn't clearly explain why he/she prescribed both antibiotic at the same time you should call for clarification.

Most doctors tend to recommend drugs that are new to the market. On the downside, these medicines are rather costly and aren't any better than the ones available in stores. Patients restricted by a tight budget must ask their physician for a generic alternative. Why Doctors Prescribe Azithromycin
When suffering from bacterial infection, it is crucial the medication you are prescribed is strong enough to eliminate the target bacteria without affecting the other beneficial bacteria. Azithromycin meets this requirement since you only need to take this once a day for just three days. With such a short dosing period, patients find this drug cost-efficient and convenient. Doctors, on the other hand, are pleased since it improves compliance significantly.
Side Effects
When put on an Azithromycin regimen, side effects such as diarrhea, stomach pain, upset stomach, vomiting and mild skin rash could be experienced. It is recommended you inform your doctor of any side effects especially if the symptoms become worse. There are cases when patients reported hypersensitivity to the medication, characterized by hives, swelling of the face and feet and breathing difficulties. Again, call your doctor for proper medical attention.

There are some very good reasons why your physician might prescribe two different antibiotics. Azithromycin (Zithromax) and amoxicillin-clavunlanate (Augmentin) are two different types of antibiotics (azithromycin is a macrolide and amoxicillin is a beta-lactam) and treat different types of bacterial infections. If you have an infection in which different types of bacteria are likely to be present, the best course may be to use two different antibiotics to cover both types, particularly if the infection is serious and/or difficult to be certain which bacteria are present.

Hmm. you must have something really serious. Maybe you're immune to antibiotics and he had to give you an extra one for it to work.
Doubt it will do anything serious. Give you a yeast infection if you're a girl.
