I expect my doctor to change my medication and wondered what the 'current drug of choice' is...

Prozac, otherwise known as fluoxetine. Sertraline, amitriptyline, Parnate(not now available). Venlofaxine. Don't let your doctor put you on Paroxetine. The current drugs of choice are called SSRI's, and there are many. They are Seratonin Re-uptake inhibitors. They lift your mood, but it takes a few weeks for them to kick in, so don't expect overnight miracles. (Paroxetine is very difficult to get off once you have started) Most drugs have some side effects, but these tend to wear off after a while. They will affect your sex life.
Hope this helps.
