There is a saying in the Bible that says "Let your women be silent in church".
Many organized churches take this to mean that men are to preach and women are to listen.
I take it as church gossip shouldn't take place, and it shouldn't.

God does not Call a Woman to be a Leader in the Church, unless it is to other Women. A Pastor is to be a Man.

1 Corinthians 14:34-36 we read, "Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says ... for Adam was formed first, then Eve."
The above is just one of the several verses that describe the role of women in church. Taken alone, without the many other places that the Bible addresses women, a lot of people find this unfair.
As a Christian woman I do not find it unfair for a couple of reasons. (1) What God ordains, I must obey. Pleasing God is a joy for me. Therefore, I'm delighted to do as He says. (2) If you read the rest of Corinthians and Ephesians, you'll find many verses that describe the equality of men and women, the way men are instructed to treat their wives, etc. The position of women is not unfair or out of balance when you take all the verses together.

Most pastors are men because the bible says that the men are the head of the household and so they should also be head of the church, women are nurturers and are the supporters of their husbands in the church. Occasionally you will see woman pastors but they are usually single or are childrens pastors.

There is a verse somewhere that says a woman shouldn't teach a man... but I don't remember exactly where.
Most Churches uses that to say that the pastor should be a man... it's probably taken out of context... but that's the basis most use...
I found the scripture and posted it below... maybe it's not out of context.

the bible says in 1 Tim 3:2"Now the overseer(pastor)must be above reproach, the husband of but one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach",
4"He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey him with proper respect. 5(If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take care of God's church?) "
Who else does this leave out?

In 2nd Timothy of the Bible (I think, although i don't have my Bible handy) It states the requirements of a preacher. And it also talks about how man is the head of the household as Adam was created first before Eve. Eve was created as Adams help-mate. Sorry Ladies. Truth is Truth.

It takes courage to start a church therefore even if a woman is called to be a pastor it could be hard for her to start a ministry. Only women who get support from their men can make it.

Because only a few Christian Churches truly believe that the women may have authority to lead churches. In most churches, women are subjected to man's authority (how convenient).
I personally believe that women are sacred. They should not be subjected to man's authority, but should be equal partners not only in a relationship, but spiritually and in leadership.

Because according to scripture....women shouldn't be in an authoritative role in the church assembly.
This is where the United Methodists go wrong...outside of letting homosexuals preach in the pulpit as well.
