Today stick to ice cold drinks and warm foods; ice tea, milk, juices, smoothies, milk shakes, warm soups (chicken noodle is soothing due to the salt in the broth) mashed potato or baked cheese stuffed, mac and cheese, scrambled eggs, pastas. The ice cold will help with pain and reduce swelling, avoid anything hot (it will cause the blood to flow again and could dislodge the clot) and allow foods to cool until warm.
By tomorrow you should be able to start adding other foods back into your diet. Just "avoid" hard, crunchy, grainy and sharp foods that could jab or get lodged in the socket area, causing trauma or infection to develop. Be sure to rinse well with warm salt water several times a day over the next week.
Follow all the dentist instructions; use the ice pack today and take all prescribe medications. You can also take Advil or Motrin 600-800 mg about 2 hours after you take your pain medication to avoid upsetting your stomach. This helps to reduce the inflammation and swelling and aids in the duration of the pain medications effects. We always encourage patients to take this along with their antibiotics and pain medication. You should start jaw exercises tomorrow by opening and closing several times a day, a little wider each time to stretch the muscle. This will help to regain full function of your jaw and ease the pain associated with muscle strain caused from being open so long and wide for the procedure. As always if you are unsure of anything, please talk with your dentist prior to your procedure and I'm sure he will feel confident with the advice I've given you today. Good luck and you will do just fine!

I had Jell-o, pudding, mashed potatos, chicken broth, and ice cream. The best one that sort of helped my pain go away was the jell-o. I just bought a bunch of cups of the sugar free kind.
