My female golden gave birth to 11 puppies on Friday. Starting Saturday night she has had bad diarrhea. I know she retained at least 1 placenta but the vet gave her a Oxytoxin shot. She however did eat the rest of placenta's which I know can give her diarrhea but given the fact she had them in the middle of the night I had no help and wasn't given any other choice. Her temp is 101.5 and she still has a healthy appetite. So is the fact she ate to many placentas making her sick and how long will this last? Or is there something else I need to worry about.

It is more than likely the placentas, especially in view of how may pups she has had. As long as her temperature is normal and she is eating and drink well I wouldn't worry, it'll pass soon. However, if things do take a turn for the worse get her to a vet asap. Congratulations on the pups!

I woun't worry too much but watch her and keep in contact with your vet. Sometimes a new mom can get a infection if all the afterbirth is not expelled or if there is still one pup remaining inside her. The only way you will know is to bring her into the vets for him to feel her stomach or even a x-ray.
To ease your mind give the vet a phone call and tell him whats going on.
I usually had my vet come and take a look at the dam shortly after she has stopped giving birth just to be on the safe side for all.

Usually a small amount of liquilytes or pedialite will help a whole lot with most cases of diarrhea. I won't hurt your dog or the pups, If your not sure about this ask your vet, I'm sure they'll agree. This is the same thing you give to small children that are dehydrated or have diarrhea you can find it at any grocery store.

She has had a major hormonal change, not to mention her tummy can now expand to normal. She will have the runs. Just keep her hydrated, and if it doesn't start to firm up in a few days, go to the vet.

I really do not know how long it last, but my vet like to use old remedies for the dogs and they really work.
he tells me to give them raw egg whites, flat spite, and a little Pepito.
It always works for my dogs, and surprisingly they love egg white.
