I'm buying a car on Friday & my dad has just agreed I can use his old car to part ex against the cost. He cannot be there on the day I go to collect so my question is this: can I sell his car to the motor company when the logbook shows him as the owner? He seems to think that if he signs the form & gives me a cover note explaining what we are doing this will be acceptable? Not sure myself & I dont want to get all the way over there & be told this is a no go. Thanks for your help x

Best way to cover yourself is get your dad to write a note of explanation and sign it also put a password in it say his birthday with a phone number seal it in an envelope. When you go for the car let them read the letter and phone your dad and they will ask him to repeat the password or code plus if your dad has access to a fax machine or computer he could then confirm by fax or e/mail Hope this helps

The log book is not any proof of ownership, and it says that on the document. So long as you have the car owners written permission to sell (signed & dated) and quoting the reg.no. so there is no doubt about which car is involved, you shouldn't have any trouble.
