I have a good question for Muslims.?

Why should I respect Muslims when they endanger my life and freedom as an ex-Muslim? Why should I respect Muslims when they imprison and kill people like me? Why should I respect Muslims when apostates and critics of Islam wind up dead? Look at the Afghan convert who barely escaped with his life, look at the Azerbaijani writers who were locked up for abusing Muhammad and who the Iranians want dead, look at the Egyptian blogger who was jailed for four years, look at Turkish converts to Christianity who are on trial for defaming Islam and insulting Turkishness! Look at Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Daniel Pearl, Hitoshi Igarashi (he was Japanese!), Salman Rushdie, the Pope, Theo van Gogh! Need I go on? Even Craig David got death threats which he published on his site! Isn't it the way Muslims do things? Don't debate your critics like civilized human beings, shut them up! Every time I try and respect this religion it fails me. So tell me why I should respect the people who do this to me, to my people.

And yes, I am an Arab Egyptian ex-Muslim, and of course Muslims here will make believe I don't exist, it's what I just talked about here. Every time I talk to people who are supposedly ignorant Islamophobes or racists I see they have one hell of a point. Say what you want about Islam, and how much of it is true will shock you. Which do you consider more offensive, the Muhammad cartoons, or the Muslims who protested them by screaming EUROPE, GET READY FOR THE REAL HOLOCAUST?

It's a secular democracy on paper! Supposedly we have the right to freedom of religion according to the Egyptian constitution, so why would I be thrown behind bars if I changed my religion?! You're all talk, man, you're all talk! You think freedom is something you write on a wall, you don't actually practice it.

How many Muslims are there? 1.5 billion? 20% of the world's population? And how many Nobels have they won? 10, 15? Yasser Arafat shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Israeli Prime Minister Yizhak Rabin. And he was a former terrorist. The PLO carried out many civilian massacres and blew gas pipes in Israeli homes in the 70s, just as Hamas is doing today, before they agreed to conditions similar to those of the Quartet in exchange for self-rule in Gaza and the West Bank.

And it's worth noting that even Palestinian ex-Muslims are persecuted.

Vivian what do Christians do? Blow themselves up? Have civil wars? Kill people for insulting Jesus? Can you name one country in the world that still follows Bibilical law? Have you ever heard of Christians converting to Islam and paying with their lives? Some Muslims are good people in spite of Islam, not because of it. Islam makes them the way they are. Far from being a great religion, it is a totalitarian ideology.

By All Means how can you say the death sentence for apostasy is not justified by Islam when all major schools of Islamic jurispidence agree on it, when it always makes the news, when it's grounded in the hadeeth and fatwas even in Al Azhar University, which is near where I live btw?

What use is it denying something that's so well proven and documented in Islamic literature? For the life of me, I'll never understand why people think they can say apostates aren't killed.

So in other words, this isn't because of MUSLIMS, but because of what ISLAM teaches them to do, and critics and apostates of Islam deserve everything they're getting because they 'talk crap' about Islam and its prophet. It's exactly this idiotic attitude that caused me to leave the religion. Muslims don't think with their heads. Things that any modern rational human being would condemn, like the execution of apostates, find a pseudo-logical explanation in the minds of Muslims.

Culture is just an excuse. When Muhammad says 'Whoever changes his religion, kill him' and apostates are killed, it's not culture. It's Islam.

Second, leaving Islam is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am a MUCH MORE ENLIGHTENED person than I EVER WAS as a Muslim. No more anti-Semitism, no more misogyny, no more superstitions about hell for billions of unbelievers, no more justifying pedophilia on account of the nightmarish thug you call a prophet. I don't think it has anything to do with religion. It's much more about resisting Western influences and even what is deemed to be a Western religion (Christianity). Since much of that part of the world was only untill recently under imperialistic forces.

I am not Muslim, and I will not pretend you don't exist. But I have a question. Why then, was my sister-in-law able to marry outside of her religion and get out of Islam with no trouble? She was born and raised in Turkey as a Muslim.
