I,ve had my yorkie pup for two weeks.I am crate training him and there has been no problem with bed wetting until yesterday and today. In his crate is his bed and blanket and a puppy training mat,he has always used the mat during the night expect for the last two nights. I have awoken to a dry mat and a wet bed.It is very unusual for puppies to soil their own bed, what could be the reason? He is certainly not afraid of the crate as he voluntarily goes there during the day when he is tired.

Not unusual, don't worry. My last pup in training did exactly the same thing.

Take up his water an hour before bed and give plenty of toilet opportunity before settling down. Toilet him again first thing in the morning (before anything else). I wouldn't use the training mat either, this can confuse your pup that it is ok to toilet in the crate.

Good luck

Dont let him have water too late at night, and be sure to walk him right before you put him in at night. Also, if you didn twash the bed very well the 1st time he did it - he will smell it on the bed and do it again and again.

Also, i had a kitten who all of a sudden started going to the bathroom where he slept. This is VERY strange for cats as they usually dont go anywhere else but the litter box. We took the cat to the vet and it turned out that he had a small bladder infection, and simply could not make it to the litter box. the vet said that it was even possible that the kitten was going in his sleep!!

good luck.

Using a mat in the crate is teaching him that it is ok to soil in the crate. He won't really know the difference between bedding & matting. You probaly just thought he did.The fact that he has been doing it on the mat is probaly sheer luck until now.I would try feeding him in is crate for every meal. They don't like to soil their eating area. If he continues to soil & he is over 12 weeks old I would move the crate to higher ground. Place it on top of a table or something similiar as long as it is safe. Dogs assiociate soiling with the floor & stop once placed higher up in the air. I have a crate on top of another crate to stop my dog soiling her crate & she is 4 years old. If I put her in the lower one she will soil in the night.

Some young dogs cannot physically hold their needs for over an hour ot two. Involuntary urination can be a sign of a urinary tract infection which will need a vets attention and meds to clear up.
