I think its 3 points and a fine. You get a ban if you get 6 points - this is over two years

You will get 3 points and a £60 fine. I think if you hit 6 points in the first two years of driving you get a ban. By the way, in the UK, an sp30 endorsement is on your license for 4 years, not 3. I have 6 points from almost 4 years ago, and I was told they cannot be lifted until the 4 years is up.

As for doing 60 in a 40mph zone, it could be bad news. Best thing to do is wait for the letter through the post, don't ignore it though, and lying to court about who was driving is perjury isn't it? Wouldn't advise that much ;)

In future, just observe what other motorists are doing in the area, befoer shooting of at high speed, hardly anyone sticks to the speed limit, it's highly impracticle at times too.

You will get a fixed penalty fine of £60 and 3 points on your licence. The points will stay on for 3 years and come off in the 4th. You need to send your licence off to have the points added and again to have them taken off.
You should be notified within 14 days if you are to be fined etc. If they take longer write back and tell them they are out of time and do not pay. They might say that they have already sent a letter to you and that you have failed to respond. If this happens ask them for proof of posting and proof of delivery. Contact you motoring organisation like the RAC and they will advise you.

" i think the speed limit was 50 "

UM... you might want to find that out before you drive again.

Looks like you're making excuses.
If you really wanted to you could have recorded the driver in front of you's number plate and reported them afterwards.
There's no excuse for breaking the law. If this other driver was supposedly speeding they would have been caught too ? If they were breaking at that time you would have been able to have passed so stop trying to explain yourself because it won't change the fact that you were in the wrong.

I think it's 2 points and there isn't always film in the camera - so start worrying when the ticket drops through your letter box. You can always say Jeremy Clarkson was driving - it only takes a picture of the number plate. Just say he was testing a reasonably priced car on the road for Top Gear.

In my area at least, Photo tickets are not points off your record. There is no way to tell who was driving. I've been there a few times, and not all the times I was driving. My dad had his truck at the shop I work at, I gave him my car for the day. He got a photo ticket in a playground zone and I ended up having to pay it, as I'm the only one registered to drive that car. No points were taken off my record, I've had 2 other tickets since then and the same story, no points. The only times points count toward your record is if you are pulled over and everything varified by police. This is in Calgary, Canada.

You'll get 3 points and a £60 fine. Regarding insurance, an SP30 shouldn't affect insurance. I got caught doing 63mph in a 50mph area a couple years back.

It'll probably be 3 points & £60. If you get 6 or more points in the first two years after passing your test, you revert to learner staus, provisonal licence, L plates & all and you have to take both tests again.
