Yeah, unfortunately by sending them amongst other children, they're exposed to all kinds of diseases, and I have heard lots of complaints from parents having their children come home sick.
I guess if she is constantly sick though it might pay to ask your doctor about it - she might be low on a particular vitamin or something that is lowering her immune system. It pays to be a little paranoid sometimes.

Children up to age seven get sick a lot when around other sick children. They are building their immune system. However if your child is well one week then sick the next with cough and cold tipe symtoms your child could have asthma. I would take your child to the pediatriction and ask. If it is all different kinds of illnesses then it is the old building the immune thing. Then sometimes children develope viral infections and it takes a long time for them to get over it an sometimes during the course of getting well they will relapse.

So the best thing to do is ask the doctor to find out just exactly what you child is dealing with here and go from there and make sure your child is up on all shots.

With my son it turned out to be a combination of bad immune system and Asthma. He still gets sick alot. He is sick now.

Yes its normal I worked in childcare and my daughter went there from the time she was a baby now 3 she stayed sick all the time..I quit 6 months ago and she hasnt been sick since. As long as your child is around other kids that are sick your child is gonna be sick no matter how much their immune system is built up....

I feel your concern and pain .... my 5yr old just started pre-K this year and has been sick ever since. But she was never put in a daycare or anything like that. We talked to her pedi and he assured me that everything was going to be ok.

He instructed me to give a daily vitamin with VITAMIN C (immune system booster) to help build her immune system and help fight of any germs that she may come into contact with. You should also try to explain the best you can to a 1yr old that they should not put their hands in their month after touching the toys and stuff at the daycare because that is were MOST of the germs come from.

If they are not used to being around other children on a daily basis then yes they are going to catch everything that goes around ... until their immune system gets built up and usto all of the germs that are spread around a daycare.

Hope this helps you .......

It may be that his immune system needs to get used to being around all the other kids, or that the day care isn't as clean as it should be. After toys fall on the ground or are mouthed by children they should be put up and bleached. The utensils, cups, and bowls, also should be washed in a dishwasher or washed in hot water and then bleached. The center needs to be super clean and have a policy about sick children. If they are sick then they should not be at day care if it is catchy.

Yep. Normal. Exposing them to other children is an excellent way to make them ill.

Being sick does build the immune system. You've heard the saying 'What doesn't kill you makes you strong"? It applies- so long as she doesn't get THAT sick, every illness she has teaches her body to fight off illness more effectively. That doesn't mean you should TRY to expose her to illness- just that if you must, don't feel guilty.

HOWEVER. I strongly reccomend taking her to the doctor to be checked over before putting her in child care (suppose she had a compromise immune system for any reason. Then it would be very awful for her to be exposed to sickness.) And, please take her to the Dr. anytime she is more than a teeny bit sick.

Kids spread so much ickyness around one another in a daycare situation. Start giving your daughter some sort of vitamin to help build up her defences. Dont be alarmed, it is very natural. If you are still unsure set up an appt with her Pediatrician, and see what they say. She could have a low immune system, but thats probably not the case. Better safe then sorry though! Best of Luck to you.

Yes, one reason we decided to send our son to daycare, rather than let my MIL take care of him all day was to expose him to illnesses. The last thing I wanted to do was keep my kid home until kindergarden and then have them always sicks because they never got exposed to anything.

You might be seeing a little more of it because your child was 1 when they went to daycare. We've seen our bouts of colds, but nothing really too major, but ours is a small in home licensed daycare, so there may be less to be passed around.

At any rate, it's normal to get ill from daycare....lots of things to share germs with.

Yes the first few month the child will get sick (normal) because she is expose to germs that she is not use too
also note that it will help her with the first years of school
because if you decide to have her stay home and not go to daycare she will have experience the same problem when she starts school

yes, this should be pretty common as they are exposed to the outside environment with lots of other kids around, virus spread easily as the children played with each other. If it's not anything major, it could be good as your child will slowly built up a defence system on its own and your child could grow up stronger in resistance.
