hi... i suffer from hypothyroidism for the past 9 yrs....
i'm to take thyroxine tablets every morn for the past 9 yrs & may need to take it for the rest of my life...
situation : hypo- is caused due to under production of thyroid hormones from the gland...
solution : the tab makes up for the deficit
disadv - life long tablets
situation : hyper- gland produces more than normal hormones....
solution : drugs/surgery
drugs that slow down the gland... or a permanent solution would be to get a part of ur thyroid removed.
disadv : need for surgery...means General anesthesia, hospital stay, scar, expensive procedure & lot of investigations..,
adv : permanent cure ! (mostly)

Under active throid - by taking tiny little thyroxine tablets. Problem you may need more and more as years progress, this is happening to me.
Over active thyroid really needs surgey. Problem you may need plastic surgery as the scar is obvious on your neck. But apparently one feels a lot better.
