I am currently playing in a basketball team and the extra weight I am carrying on me is limiting my performance in the game.

Keep playing and practicing daily. Burns lots of calories.
Eat LOTS of vegetables, lean meats, limit the bread and potatoes. NO sugar. And no diet soft drinks, they actually keep you from losing weight.
You can eat as much as you want of vegetables, fresh, frozen or canned, and also of meat.
You will have a lot more energy eating that way also.

On the contrary, your extra weight could potentially help you if you know how to use it well on the court... especially in posting up and rebounding. Basketball is a contact sport.
